Can The X5-CD Feed Dispenser Hold Up To Tough Weather?
At Equine Automation we strive to provide the safest, most versatile, highest quality, best valued product on the market today. We have field tested our product for over two years under extreme New England conditions, from frigid snowy winters to sweltering summer heat and drenching downpours. We are proud to offer this tool for aiding and controlling the multitude of dietary requirements found throughout the horse and large animal community.

Is It True That This Feeder Can Help My Horses With Ulcers?

Yes. Treating or avoiding Ulcer’s is a change in lifestyle, there is no magic pill. Small rations of food many times a day is the cure. In a nutshell you need to control the stomach acids which are naturally created when digesting. A steady diet of forage into the horses stomach will acts as a cap, keeping the acids contained to the lower stomach, protecting the sensitive upper stomach. If free range grazing is not an option then a feed schedule using Equine Automation’s CD-X5 programmable feeder is your solution. Let's say you can only get to your guy twice a day; with the use of a CD-X5 you would be able to add 10 additional meals a day, five after your morning feed and five more after your evening feed. This is only one variation, being fully programmable the options are endless.

Can It Help Horses That Tend To Colic?
Absolutely! Colic simply means pain associated to the abdomen. Most disorders which are responsible for abdominal discomfort can be controlled and regulated by good diet management. Diet management translates to being consistent. By incorporating a CD-X5 Feeder you can set your horses feed schedule down to the same time each day and down to the exact amount each time. A typical automated grain feeder can only dispense grain and it will vary dramatically cycle to cycle whereas a CD-X5 will dispense whatever is loaded to an exact amount each time, right down to a small dose of supplement.

Can Smaller Feedings Actually Save Me Money On Vet Or Feed?
Yes. When feed is rationed in this manner the horse tends to be more focused and thorough during his dining experience leading to a small savings in feed. The true savings comes from not having that emergency vet call to deal with a colicking horse. Most Colic cases stem from poor horse diets and it’s not what they eat but how it’s presented to them. Utilizing a CD-X5 feeder you can design a multiple, small ration feed schedule keeping your horse happier and healthier.

Can Timed Feedings Help My Horse Stay Healthier and More Content?

Yes. Any effort to mimic horses’ natural grazing tendencies can only improve their overall health, both physically and mentally. A horse owner can expect to be rewarded with fewer Colic episodes, possibly avoiding an Ulcer condition and even ending the day with a better behaved companion under saddle. Another benefit of timed feedings is that it gives the horses something to do. By minimizing this boredom you can prevent or moderate unwanted behaviors such as cribbing, weaving and stall walking.

Is The X5- CD Feeder Limited To Hay or Grain?
No! The X5-CD Automatic Feeder is one of the only feeders on the market today that can handle various feed and supplements. It can be preloaded and programmed to dispense five times, each dispense can be its own special combination of food. It can handle grains, oats, cubes, chopped forage and supplements. Dispense five times a day or once a day for five days. Customize it to your specific needs.

Can My Senior Horse Benefit From Multiple Timed Feedings?
Yes, even more than young horses. As your horse ages his diet management needs increase. He may not be able to grind up hay as efficiently which could lead to colic. He may have weight loss (or weight gain) challenges. These and others can be managed by utilizing a X5-CD feeder to create a custom feed schedule. Being fully programmable the unit can be reconfigured as your horses needs change. An investment that will serve you and your horse for many years.

Do I Need Special Power Requirements?
The feeder operates on a 12 volt rechargeable battery system. It runs without recharge for 3-5 weeks, a battery monitor is built into the LED display to notify you when it is time to plug in. Recharge is accomplished by simply connecting the charger to the unit and then plugging into a standard110 volt outlet, typically for an overnight.

What If I Don't Have Access To Standard Electricity For The Feeder?
Equine Automation offers a Solar panel option which would make the unit 100% maintenance free with respect to battery service. All you need is several hours of moderate to direct sunlight, several days a week. The Solar Panel feature can be factory installed at time of purchase or field installed by the owner at any time.
