About Jameson Ranch Camp…
Our 75th Summer Season! At Jameson Ranch Camp, we value honesty, integrity, self-respect and respect for others, and we expect campers to act according to these values. As children become adults, their camp experiences become tools for successful living.
We also believe in self-sufficiency. Our pace of life is connected with the sunshine of each day and we celebrate and create life's happenings. Growing our own food, singing our songs, tending the animals, playing and working together, all help to develop a caring community where each person is an important part of the whole.
Campers know they are contributing to fresh bread for dinner when they gather wood for the outdoor oven. In today's high tech society, it is rare to sleep outside, gather eggs, and pitch hay to calves. Here at camp, this wholesome lifestyle continues from generation to generation.
About Our Horse Program…
Our "HORSE PROGRAM" is a fantastic way for children to learn riding and develop higher-level skills. Every child is evaluated for his/her ability and placed in a group that matches the skill of the child. As the rider progresses through lessons to higher groups, lots of additional activities are added. Canter Riders, you get to deliver the mail by Pony Express !! The trumpet sounds and the horse starts cantering into camp from the barn gate...the rider delivers the mail bag and spins the horse around before cantering away. The whole camp is watching and hollering in fun as mail is eagerly anticipated. Canter Riders also get to go on short cattle drives to change cattle from one pasture to another (yes, friends, it's the real thing... cowboy and cowgirl time). Bushwackers and that is genuine mountain enjoyment as you ride bareback out to gather horses in the early morning. There are trail rides offered several times a week...for any level of rider. Jameson Ranch is bordered by the Sequoia National Forest, so in addition to our 500 acres, the rides can go on many miles of trails. Also, bareback on a horse is a wonderful riding experience and kids love the excitement and challenge of bareback in the riding ring. An overnight camp trip on horseback happens each session.
HORSE VAULTING is an exciting program that teaches gymnastic moves on the back of a horse being lunged in a circle. The vaulters progress rapidly and put on a great show for parents on the last day of the session.
CART DRIVING is also offered where campers learn to harness a horse to a cart and learn to drive the cart along dirt roads. Campers wear boots and helmets when riding. The head counselor is First Aid and CPR certified and children are always with a counselor. The counselors carry radios. **Safety is never compromised!!** And there is so much more to do at Jameson Ranch! Safety is always first at JRC!!!
Other Great Activities to Enjoy at Jameson Ranch…
Along with all our horse programs campers can enjoy many activities like Archery, Crafts, Riflery, Overnights, Astronomy, Mountain Biking, Folk Dances, Cookouts, Campfires and so much more!
