How to Keep Your Horse Barn Clean by Elgee Mfg.
elgeear2ttop

The winter season is here! And with it, a whole new list of tasks to get done in order to ensure your horse’s health. From veterinary visits to vaccinations, all are necessary in order to minimize the risk of your horse getting sick. But being a professional barn or stable owner, you of course know this. What may come as a surprise to you is that, even in the cold days and nights of winter, keeping your horse’s stable clean is paramount to ensuring that diseases don’t live or spread around your barn.

We get it, cleaning your stable and barn is a hassle. You have to go get several buckets, or a wheelbarrow, some gloves, a broom and then spend the rest of your day sweeping up hay, dirt, dust, clay and other debris from your stables. And on top of all that, you need to make sure you are wearing a mask and are all covered up, so you don’t get sick from all the dirt and dust that the broom is kicking up. While sweeping up your barn is necessary, we understand that it can also be a messy pain.
Plus, a messy barn or stable is the perfect breeding ground for various diseases and illnesses that could harm both you, and your horse. Regardless, a messy stable is unsightly, and no one wants their horse to live in such conditions! On top of all the bacteria and diseases that a messy stable can foster, the old dirt and dust that gets kicked up can cause harmful debris to be inhaled by the both of you, or anyone else who enters the barn. This could result in a variety of respiratory problems for all parties involved. For our equine friends, a dirty stable floor can result in hoof ailments, such as thrush.

As you know by now, a dirty barn is a danger. So, how can we keep our stables clean so that our lovely equine friends are as healthy and comfortable as they can be? Well, it’s important to ensure your barn or stable is properly ventilated, ensuring that all harmful particles and debris are forced out, and fresh air is brought in. Another important step is to make sure you clean or replace your floor mats often, to maintain your horses’ hoofs remain healthy as well. But what about all the loose hay, dirt and debris? Well you could sweep it up, but that would take hours and is taxing on your health and well-being. How about using a leaf blower? That would be faster, but instead of actually cleaning your stable, it would instead kick up and spread all the dirt and debris instead of having it cleaned out of the barn.

This is why barn and stable owners are turning to ELGEE! Our Power Vacuums are perfect for stable and barn clean up. ELGEE Power Vacuums are tough, and powerful enough to clean your entire barn or stable in a matter of minutes instead of hours. Saving you time, time that you can spend with your family this holiday season!
Dust, hay and debree are vacuumed away

Instead of kicking up and spreading all the dirt, dust and bacteria in your stable, our Power Vacuums will suck it all up into a sturdy cotton or polyester bag. A bag that you can then unzip and dump out at your convenience. Our Power Vacuums also have an optional hose accessory, allowing you to reach to higher-up places, or those pesky corners that are always a pain to clean. But is it easy to operate? Of course! Due to the three-wheel chassis design, our Power Vacuums are easily maneuverable allowing you to clean your barn up twelve times faster than manual broom and rake methods. Plus, there are no belts, chains or levers to mess with, so daily operation and maintenance is a breeze!

There are only a couple of things to worry about when it comes to our ELGEE Power Vacuum maintenance. The first being applicable to all machine types, and it is: to perform bag maintenance when you see the bag become clogged. ELGEE Power Vacuum bags serve two purposes, one is to hold the debris you vacuum up, with the second function of the bag being a filter. This allows air to flow through the small pores in the bag, allowing for greater suction. But, if those small pores get clogged with fine dust, then the bag loses its filter function, resulting in a loss of suction performance.

The second maintenance task is applicable specifically to our engine powered machines. With that task being to perform seasonal engine oil changes. We recommend changing out your Power Vacuum engine oil at the start of each new season, however, for a more detailed schedule, please refer to the engine manual that comes with your ELGEE Power Vacuum.
ELGEE Power Vacuums come in a variety of engine choices, such as: gasoline, propane, electric and battery. But, for barns and stables we recommend our Electric Power Vacuum, as it is perfect for indoor use and doesn’t produce harmful fumes.
