Jameson Ranch Camp is a real ranch in the Southern Sierras,
3 hours north of Los Angeles. Horses are a big part of life on a cattle ranch.
Our HORSE PROGRAM is a fantastic way for children to learn riding and develop higher
level skills. We have lots of fun with riding and the joy of caring for some sweet horses. Our lessons in Western and bareback start at the beginning levels. Every child is evaluated for his/her
ability and placed in a group that matches the skill of the child. As the rider progresses through lessons to higher groups, lots of additional activities are added. If you pass Canter Riders, you get
to deliver the mail by Pony Express !! The trumpet sounds and the horse starts cantering into camp from the barn gate...the rider delivers the mail bag and spins the horse around before
cantering away. The whole camp is watching and hollering in fun as mail is eagerly anticipated. Canter Riders also get to go on short cattle drives to change cattle from one pasture to another
(yes, friends, it’s the real thing... cowboy and cowgirl time). The highest group is called Bushwackers and that is genuine mountain enjoyment as you ride bareback out to gather horses in the early morning.
There are TRAIL RIDES offered several times a week...for any level of rider. Jameson
Ranch is bordered by the Sequioa National Forest, so in addition to our 500 acres, the rides can go on many miles of trails. Also, bareback on a horse is a wonderful riding experience and kids
love the excitement and challenge of bareback in the riding ring. An overnight camp trip on horseback happens each session.
HORSE VAULTING is an exciting program that teaches gymnastic moves on the back of a
horse being lunged in a circle. The vaulters progress rapidly and put on a great show for parents on the last day of the session.
CART DRIVING is also offered where campers learn to harness a horse to a cart and learn to
drive the cart along dirt roads. Safety is always first at JRC!!! Campers wear boots and helmets when riding. The head counselor is First Aid and CPR certified and children are always with a
counselor. The counselors carry radios. **Safety is never compromised!!** And there is so much more to do at Jameson Ranch!
