Riding Jeans, Riding Jeans Vs Regular Jeans,
 What’s the Difference?
The Horsewoman Spirit Riding Jeans

Article from The Horsewoman Spirit

When you’re looking for the perfect pair of jeans for riding there are lots of choices.  There are many brands of “regular jeans” out there that are made for any occasion. Most of us have several of pairs of them in our closets, but are they good for riding? There are some new options in jeans that are made specifically for horse back riding. What are the advantages of these “riding jeans”? Are they better for riding than your every day jeans?
Let’s look at some rider friendly features offered by these riding jeans…
Jeans For Riding Horses

Stretch – most jeans made especially for riding have stretch built into the fabric.
This is usually accomplished by combining spandex with the denim. If you’ve ever had trouble bending your knee enough to get your foot in the stirrup or had to hike up the fabric around your hips to help you mount, you know how important stretch is in riding pants. Besides helping you mount, stretchy fabric also helps your jeans move with you as you ride. When you ride, your horse is moving and your body is moving. It makes for a better ride if your jeans move with your body not against it. Also stretch makes jeans more comfortable to wear and can give your body some support.

Seaming – most jeans are made with folded, doubled seams. This traditional seaming makes the seams very durable, but can cause quite a bit of discomfort to the rider. Look for riding jeans offering open, flat seaming for the inner legs. What a relief!

Knee Patches – Many riders experience painful rubbing where their knees make contact with the saddle. This is usually caused by the friction between the leg and the big double seam when you ride. In addition to the flat seaming mentioned above, riding jeans may have knee patches for this area that can make your next long trail ride much more comfortable.

Styling – Riding requires specific body position and movements. Jeans that are styled and cut especially to accommodate mounting, sitting in the saddle, and moving appropriately when riding can really make your ride more comfortable and enjoyable. Have you tried riding in “skinny jeans”, or in ultra low rise jeans?
