Warner Guiding and Outfitting

Holiday on Horseback, run by Warner Guiding & Outfitting, will guide you through a photographer's heaven on everything from a 1 hour trail ride to a 6 day backcountry tenting or lodging trip. We offer a style and duration of rides to suit anyone's taste and style.  Our backcountry rides are perfect for people of all abilities. With over 300 head of horses, Holiday on Horseback guarantees a sure-footed, sturdy mount to match your experience.
If you are looking for something educational in the wilderness this July, come study the history and habitat of Grizzly bears on our 6-Day continuation of the "Year Of The Grizzly" trip with Dr. Mike Gibeau, one of Canada's leading authorities on Grizzly bears.  Over the past 100 years of horse travel in the Rockies, we can attest to the compatibility between bears and horseback travelers. Whatever the reasons may be, bears take little notice of horse parties. Enjoy a horseback adventure and share in a rare opportunity to spend time in some of Canada's prime grizzly habitat with professional interpretation.
Or join us in September to learn about the history, moving patterns and habitat of wolves on the 4 -Day "Wolf Congress Trip" with prominent wolf researcher Melanie Percy of Canmore, Alberta.  Participate in radio-telemetry and tracking, as well as open discussion on wolf ecology, history of wolves and of wolf research in the Park. Also available are interpretive tent rides that combine information sessions and fantastic mountain scenery. Interpreter Dave Day takes the 6-day "Mountain Ecosystem" interpretive ride through the montane, sub-alpine, and alpine settings. With a knowledge and appreciation for parks gained through a 23-year career with the National Park Service, Dave will once again be a highly qualified and entertaining escort for the group.  Bob Haney is the new interpreter heading up the 6-Day "Wilderness, Wildlife and Mountain Legends" ride. After retiring from a 31-year career with the National Park warden service including 10 years as the Chief warden for Banff National Park, Bob has found his niche relating his experiences and knowledge in an environment he finds most comfortable. Each of the interpretive rides offer an excellent opportunity to listen, debate, and observe.
For those looking for the most rugged experience possible, join the Adventure Expedition 6-Day pack trips. These rides travel to the most remote areas of the park and set up camp every evening. In particular, our Wildlife Monitoring trips offer guests a chance to track carnivores through a "carnivore conservation area" with a Parks Canada researcher.  This special trip gives our guests the best of both worlds; designed for those who are specifically interested in the process of tracking and monitoring wildlife in the park, the Adventure Expeditions travel through spectacular mountain scenery.
Holiday on Horseback is conveniently located and easily accessible.  Banff is just 75 miles from the city of Calgary and its international airport.  Getting to Banff for your riding adventure is a scenic two-hour drive or shuttle ride from the airport.
